Pittsburg State University Small Crafter Program

The Pittsburg State University Small Crafter Program provides the opportunity for small home businesses to legally produce and sell homemade products that bear Pittsburg State indicia. The Crafter Licensing Program is ideal for fans, alumni, and individuals who are interested in producing small quantities of Pitt State products to sell at craft shows and to individuals.

This program is structured differently from the standard licensing program, and is more accessible for the general interest crafter. Crafter Program Structure:

  • Products must be hand-made/produced in your place of residence
  • Sales will be permitted to individuals only through craft shows, fairs, events, and/or online (i.e. Etsy.com and facebook.com)
  • No wholesale sales to any third party retailers
  • All crafters are required to obtain product liability insurance
  • Sell no more than 500 items or $2500 worth of merchandise in one contract year

 

Application Process


Applications are reviewed by the Pittsburg State University Marketing and Communication Office during the second week of each month. There is no fee to apply.

An application is considered ready to review once we receive the following information:

    • Send or deliver completed applications and physical samples to:

Criteria of Evaluation:

  • Value added to the licensing program
  • Quality of product
  • Appropriateness
  • Copy of product liability insurance certificate

 

Requirement IF a crafter license agreement is approved:

  • Full contract must be signed and returned to Pittsburg State University
  • $100 annual contract advance payment at time of contract signing
  • Designated set of logos available via style guides and digital format
  • Obtain updated logo approval prior to using Pitt State trademarks on any product
  • Obtain product liability insurance
  • Each product will require ‘Officially Licensed Product Label.’ 50 labels will be provided with contract, additional labels can be purchased from University Marketing and Communication (UMC). Contact UMC for label pricing information.
  • Track and Report sales of products on a quarterly basis. Reports must be submitted to University Marketing and Communication. A fee of $25 will be charged if a royalty report is not submitted to Pittsburg State within 30 days of license renewal or termination.

Fee:

  • Once approved, Licensee shall pay Pittsburg State University an annual administrative fee in the amount of $100
  • A fee of $25 will be charged if a royalty report is not submitted to Pittsburg State within 30 days of license renewal or termination
