Welcome to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs website.

As Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Susan Bon is Pittsburg State University's lead academic officer. In this role, she is responsible for the administration, strategic planning, development, and review processes for the university's academic programs and educational mission.  Dr. Bon is a professor, scholar, and national leader who has been focused on law and policy, disability law, civic engagement, workplace civility, and ethical leadership during her 25 years in academics.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Susan Bon's commitment to students has been unwavering. Her most fulfilling achievements have been working with students and chairing 26 successful doctoral dissertations, a testament to her dedication and passion for academic mentorship.

She has edited several books and authored or coauthored over 70 publications addressing the legal and ethical principles that inform school leaders and impact leadership in education and special education. Over the past five years, she served as co-principal investigator on two grants totaling nearly $4 million from the US Department of Education. One of the grants focused on preparing future special education leaders, and the other provided professional development opportunities for history and literacy educators.

Dr. Bon is a past president, board member, author, and editor of publications for an international law organization, the Education Law Association. She also worked at the US Department of Education and has served on numerous nonprofit boards across the country.

As an academic leader, Bon has served in leadership roles across the University of South Carolina, including the President's Office, Provost's Office, Student Affairs, and most recently as an interim associate dean in the College of Education. Prior to her university faculty service, she worked at the Ohio Department of Education. She earned her law degree and a doctorate in education policy and leadership from The Ohio State University.
