What is Gorilla Action?

Examples include:

  • Nonprofits and community organizations
  • Schools, libraries, and museums
  • Local government agencies
  • Healthcare, food access, and basic needs organizations

Does the agreement require a minimum number of volunteers or opportunities?

No. Organizations can participate based on their needs, capacity, and available opportunities.

What types of opportunities can we post?

Organizations may post a variety of volunteer opportunities through Gorilla Action, including one-time events, recurring volunteer roles, short-term projects, and ongoing service opportunities. Opportunities should include clear expectations, meaningful responsibilities, and appropriate supervision for participating students.

Do we need to provide volunteer training?

Organizations should provide the information, orientation, and supervision volunteers need to be successful and safe. This promotes continued volunteer engagement.

Do we have to verify volunteer hours?

It depends. Gorilla Action supports automatic hour tracking and verification with the right settings in place. Your site manager can guide the process if you are interested.

Are there any costs to participate?

No. There is no cost for approved organizations to participate in Gorilla Action.

Can faith-based or political organizations participate?

Yes. Organizations of many types may participate in Gorilla Action. Opportunities should focus on service, volunteerism, or civic engagement and not primarily on worship, religious instruction, political campaigning, or recruitment.

Can political candidates, campaigns, or parties participate?

No, Gorilla Action does not list opportunities that support or oppose a political candidate, campaign, political party, or partisan election effort. Nonpartisan civic engagement opportunities, including voter registration, voter education, and poll worker recruitment, may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Can PSU groups use Gorilla Action?

Yes. Student organizations, campus departments, and other PSU groups may use Gorilla Action to find volunteer opportunities, track involvement, and participate in service activities. Contact Lacy O'Malley in Campus Activities to get started.
