Are you compassionate, calm, and clear-headed when people are feeling their worst? Through the Nursing program at Pittsburg State, learn on high fidelity simulators paired with state-of-the-art technology.
Train under expert mentors who have practiced in the medical field for years. Apply your knowledge at care facilities across the four-state area from hospice to home health.
Through simulated lab activities, you gain practical experience in routine procedures and uncommon scenarios. Place an IV, aid in the delivery of a breached baby, react to the effects of a natural disaster, and more!
Accelerated and hands-on, the nursing program is designed for you to confidently enter clinical rotations. Our students complete over 700 clinical rotation hours to graduate. Showcase the nursing skills you have learned in labs working with real patients.
Our BSN students create educational presentations for elementary school students at the Teddy Bear Clinics, and coordinate vaccine clinics and blood drives.
The retention rate of BSN students is 97.6% - we make sure no student is left behind. Earn your degree armed with the tools to take on the registered nurse licensure exam (NCLEX).

Through clinical rotations and mentorship opportunities, PSU students build a strong network of connections. Some local workplaces that have recruited our graduates include:
As a nurse, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing can open more doors than an Associate Degree. A BSN increases your earning potential and allows for leadership opportunities. It’s a stepping-stone to more advanced nursing roles, including nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, clinical nurse leader, or certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA).
Nursing students who wish to leverage their degrees to serve in the military start their career in the Pitt State ROTC. Nursing graduates are commissioned into active duty, National Guard, and the Army Reserves. In addition to extensive one-on-one mentoring and training, 10 nursing scholarships are awarded to Army ROTC Cadets annually.
Pre-licensure BSN:
The Pre-Licensure emphasis is for aspiring nurses looking for a path to both their registered nurse (RN) license and a BSN degree. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination in any state.
This degree is designed for anyone who does not currently have an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Registered Nurse (RN) state nursing license.
Over a three-year period, the Pre-Licensure BSN program saw a retention rate of 97.6% and an attrition rate of 2.34%.
RN to BSN:
The RN to BSN emphasis is designed to build on the foundation of the community college Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) curriculum and RN licensure with course work needed to meet the baccalaureate degree requirements for the major in nursing (BSN) at Pittsburg State University.
PSU offers licensed Registered Nurses the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree in an accelerated time frame. RN-BSN students can complete the upper-division nursing courses in three semesters of full-time study. A part-time study is an option for nurses who want to complete nursing courses over several years.
All RN-BSN nursing courses are offered as online courses.
Over a three-year period, the RN to BSN program saw a retention rate of 93.4% and an attrition rate of 6.52%. Our online RN to BSN program was ranked #1 in Kansas in #3 by RegisteredNursing.org
