The Pittsburg State University Student Government Association is planning a new event Friday for 200 students from area high schools: the PSU Student Leadership Conference.

Attendees will be coming from Joplin High School, Webb City High School, Carl Junction High School, Galena High School, Riverton High School, Southeast High School at Cherokee, Kansas, and Pittsburg High School, to spend the day with members of the SGA in breakout sessions and workshops.

“All of the students coming are in their schools’ student councils,” said Nick Stubblefield, SGA community affairs director, who is helping to organize the event. “We did this because chances are, these students are going to be involved in organizations like student governments at their respective colleges in the near future.”

SGA Public Relations Director Skylar Hoch will present a workshop entitled “Leadership Styles,” while SGA Vice President Cal Sibenmark and Legislative Affairs Director James Cox will present “How to Run a Meeting.”

Gorilla Activities Board member Cara Zachney will present “How to Plan an Event.”

Registration will be held from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., followed by break-out sessions until lunch at 11:45 a.m. Two afternoon work sessions lasting until 1:45 p.m. will focus on event planning and event sharing. All sessions will be held in the Overman Student Center.
