"The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute for International Education, offers diverse opportunities around the world for research, graduate study, teaching abroad, and cultural exchange for current U.S. students and recent graduates. Fulbright fellows are immersed in the culture and daily life of the country of their choice. Successful applicants to this program will promote leadership, learning, and mutual understanding between cultures. Award benefits include round-trip transportation to host country, a stipend to cover room, board, and living expenses, and accident and sickness health benefits. U.S. citizens holding a Bachelor's degree by the start of the grant are eligible. For more eligibility requirements, visit the U.S. Student Program website.
Fulbright U.S. Student Awards are for one academic year.

Students may apply for Open Study/Research Awards and English Teaching Assistant Awards. Special programs and supplemental grants may also be available. Visit the U.S. Student Program website for more information.

Awards are available in several different countries. Review the list of countries to see where you might be able to go!

The application varies depending on whether you are applying for a Study/Research grant or an English Teaching Assistant grant. Please visit the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website for specific application requirements. 

You will apply on the Fulbright Online Application. As part of your application, you will have an interview with PSU's Fulbright Campus Committee. Please see our website for more information. 

The Fulbright U.S. Student program opens late March/early April every year so that you can begin your application. You must submit your application on the Fulbright Online Application by September 3rd. PSU's Fulbright Campus Committee will interview candidates, write recommendations and give feedback before the national application deadline in early October.

You will apply for the Fulbright grant a year in advance of when you wish you to be abroad. 

The PSU Campus Committee deadline for 2025-2026 awards is September 3, 2024.

August 20th-students will meet with the primary advisor

September 3rd-all application components are due by 4:00 p.m.

September 5th-interview with the PSU Fulbright committee

October 1st-final version of application is due to PSU committee

October 8th-Fulbright U.S. Student Program deadline

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program Awards are very competitive, but all are encouraged to apply! There are many factors that can affect a student's selection. PSU's Campus Committee will give suggestions on students' essays and application in order to help them be more successful applicants.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a great opportunity to teach, study, or research abroad. Visit the U.S. Student Program website for more benefits.

The goal of the PSU Campus Committee is to help students be successful applicants!

Interested students will first meet with the Study Abroad Coordinator as soon as the Fall semester begins or earlier. She will explain the possible awards, application process, and deadlines.

Dr. Sildus, the Fulbright Primary Advisor, will then meet with the student to help select the specific award for which the student will apply on August 20th.

The Study Abroad Coordinator will help the student with the essay drafts and application on the Fulbright portal. The final version of the essay draft will be due September 3, 2024 before 4:00 p.m.

The student will meet with the Campus Committee on September 5, 2024. After the meeting, the student will have individual meetings with each committee member to review and revise the essay drafts.

The student will meet with Dr. Sildus on October 1 to review the final essay draft. The student will then submit the application on the Fulbright portal prior to the October 8th national deadline.

PSU's Fulbright Campus Committee


PSU's Campus Committee will interview all PSU students who apply for a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Award. The committee is composed of PSU faculty and staff with international experience and will provide feedback on the student's application. The committee will also submit an evaluation form to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program as part of the student's application.
