Unlock your full potential and hone your writing skills with a Creative Writing emphasis. Students have two avenues to choose from in the emphasis: Poetry or Fiction. Whichever path students decide to take, they will be guided by experienced and encouraging staff. Students take classes such as Intro to Creative Writing, Multi-Genre Writing, and The Craft of Fiction/Poetry. Students will grow and learn to express themselves in a nurturing environment while they strive for their career goals.
At Pittsburg State, we believe in learning by practice. Our students can contribute to the university's student literary magazine, The Cow Creek Review. They can also be a part of the staff that reviews pieces, creates the design, and prepares the magazine for publication.
Pittsburg State graduates have been accepted into prestigious M.F.A. and Ph.D. programs throughout the nation and have received the Truman Capote Fellowship at the Iowa Writers Workshop and the John Grisham Fellowship at the University of Mississippi.
