Generally

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires PSU to verify the identity and employment eligibility and complete an I-9 form for every employee hired after November 6, 1986. In addition, the law obliges PSU not to discriminate against individuals on the basis of national origin or citizenship, or to require more or different documents from a particular individual.

I-9 Requirements

New employees must complete section 1 on an original I-9 form on or before your first day of work. The office where you complete your I-9 form depends on your employment status. See the following section regarding I-9 offices to determine where you will complete the form.

You must present acceptable documentation when you complete the I-9 form. A list of acceptable documents is on page 2. You must present the document(s) within 3 business days of the date employment begins. If you are unable to present the required document(s), you must present a receipt for the application for the document(s) within 3 business days. You must then present the actual document(s) within 90 days of the date employment begins. The office will copy your documentation and attach it to your I-9 form.

If you are appointed for less than 3 days, you must complete section 1 and present acceptable documentation on your first day of work.

IMPORTANT!!

You will not be permitted to work if you do not comply with the I-9 requirements.
