Purpose of the Classification and Compensation Plan
- To ensure a pay philosophy that is reflective of the values and goals of the University.
- To ensure the University’s financial resources are used in the most effective and efficient manner.
- To provide a rational basis for making pay decisions, eliminating arbitrary salary assignments and thereby establishing internal fairness to assist in recruiting, retaining and rewarding employees.
- To maintain salary ranges that are competitive with labor markets from which employees are recruited.
- To establish job titles and job descriptions that are consistently used throughout the University.
- To provide procedures to create and update position descriptions that accurately reflect duties, knowledge, skills, abilities and other important criteria for each position.
- To clarify relationships among positions in order to avoid overlaps and gaps in responsibilities.
- To clarify the knowledge, skills and abilities (“KSAs”) required to competently perform the position and aid in the development of career paths.
- To assist supervisors in evaluating and rewarding employee job performance.
