Pitt State to host inaugural AI symposium on April 22 

Pittsburg State University will host its first-ever AI symposium, AI in Academia and the Workforce: Exploring the Impact and Implications, on April 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Overman Student Center.  

This free event is open to students, faculty, staff, and the Pittsburg community. 

The symposium will feature panelists from a variety of disciplines discussing the evolving role of artificial intelligence in education, research, and professional fields. Those panelists include:

  1. John Kuefler, senior director of digital experience and partner at LimeLight Marketing LLC, assistant instructional professor at Pittsburg State University, and Pluralsight Author

  1. Magdalene Moy, instructional technologist at Fort Hays State University and chair of Generative AI Task Force

  1. Santiago Berni, Pitt State graduate student (College of Technology)

  3. Matthias Hoffman, special agent for the FBI Cyber Division 

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking Q&A session regarding AI following the panel discussions. 

In addition to those expert insights, the symposium planning committee has invited students and researchers to submit posters related to innovative AI-related research to be displayed at the event. 

“This event is designed to give experts and members of our campus and community the opportunity to come together to explore the impact of AI in both academia and the workforce,” said event planner Michelle Hudiburg. “Our goal is to spark important conversations. We hope it’s the first of an ongoing series!” 

Opening remarks will be given by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Susan Bon. Director of Media Relations Andra Stefanoni will serve as moderator.
