Band to bring 90s back with unique concert experience

Band members who met as students at Pittsburg State University are returning to campus in September to play a unique concert that will put audience members on stage with them.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, Bill + Monica’s Excellent Adventure (BAM) is coming to the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, 1711 S. Homer.

Starting at 7 p.m., the cover band will play different genres of ‘90s music, covering some of the best songs from the decade while putting some of their own twists for crowds to enjoy.

All seating for the concert will be on stage in the Linda & Scott Lee Performance Hall, which means fans can get the feel of being on the stage with the band.

“It is a really interesting concept,” said Chris Goddard (keyboards, rhythm guitar, trombone, trumpet). “For us to be in such a beautiful hall and the hall itself to be the backdrop to the musical setting instead of the other way around, I think the audience will get a unique perspective to the performance rather than being in the seats. We are all really looking forward to it.”

BAM has been a band for around 15 years, with members playing music their entire lives. They met as students and while playing music. Three members -- Goddard, Matt Bennett (lead guitar, saxophone, vocals), and Stacey Struble (lead vocals) are Pitt State alumni.

The band also includes Kyle Ogle (bass, vocals); Al Romero (drums); and Alex Scimeca (rhythm guitar).

“We just really enjoy playing ‘90s music, music of our childhood and some of us a little bit before our childhood,” said Goddard. “We've become the best of friends and we just play as often as we can and have a great time doing it, and enjoy each others’ company.”

Music that attendees can expect are songs from Weezer, Shania Twain, Dixie Chicks, Destiny's Child, Rage Against the Machine, and more. BAM doesn’t have a specific set list; they like to play what is the most fun from any genre in the ‘90s.

Food and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for attendees to enjoy during the show.

A ‘90’s themed costume contest will take place during the show, with prizes going to the best dressed individual and couple.

The concert is free and open to the campus and community.
