University names new internal auditor

The foundation in accounting that Nicole Rich got while as a student at Pittsburg State University is now serving her well: She began a job this week as the university’s director of internal audit.

“I had an amazing experience as a student at PSU,” she said. “I knew when graduating that I wanted to get away from the area for a time, but in the back of my mind I always wanted to come back, and I'm hoping I can help others have the same type of experience I had.”

A native of Arma, Rich graduated from PSU in 2008 and went to work for State Street Bank where she was the face of the bank for external audits.

“I worked directly with the auditors and clients to help them answer and resolve questions,” she said.

Auditors examine and analyze company records and evaluate internal controls.

“Internal audits are important because they bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes,” she said. “I’m excited to be back on campus in this role!”

Rich reports to President Dan Shipp and works closely with Vice President of Finance Doug Ball and the rest of the leadership team.
