University Choir plans free concert
On Nov. 4, the University Choir along with the PSU Chorale will perform diverse choral works under the direction of Music Department Chair Susan Marchant.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Percussion duo to perform
Performing Nov. 11 as part of the Solo & Chamber Music Series will be percussionists arx duo. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall.
Arx duo is dedicated to the expansion of the percussion chamber music repertoire through the creation and presentation of new works, the educating and inspiring of young artists, and exciting performances inviting audiences to engage with new works and artists from all over the world.
They have had premiere performances around the globe, conducted workshops on three continents, and worked with a variety of composers and artists to bring new creations to life for communities everywhere.
The name "arx duo" comes from the artists’ desire to forge new connections and artistic pathways or "arcs" within the genre, expanding the opportunities for their music to reach new audiences.
Tickets prices range from $10-$15 and are free for full-time Pittsburg State University students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pittstate.edu/music or by calling the Department of Music at 620-235-4466.
Bicknell Center and Olive Street Presents: Jason Eady and Courtney Patton
On Nov. 11, Texas and Red Dirt music artists Courtney Patton and Jason Eady will perform in the Dotty & Bill Miller Theater at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Both are acclaimed singer-songwriters who tour individually across the country with their bands, but it is not often this married couple perform together in an intimate, acoustic setting. The concert is a partnership of Olive Street Presents Ltd. in partnership with the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $25 in advance at https://olivestreetpresents.org, or $30 the day of the show at the door. All seating is general admission. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7 p.m.
Bicknell Center Presents: Kansas Army National Guard 35th Infantry Band Concert
On Nov. 12, a free concert will feature a patriotic blend of music by John Williams, Robert W. Smith, John Philip Sousa as a tribute to America’s heroes.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and take place in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Pittsburg Community Band and PSU Wind Ensemble
The newly formed Pittsburg Community Band, directed by Pittsburg High School instrumental music teacher Cooper Neil and PSU Assistant Professor of Music Andrew Chybowski will join with Chybowski’s PSU Wind Ensemble for a shared concert on Nov. 13.
The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
“Some of the most important experiences in our lives are the hardest to explain in words,” Chybowski said. “The music in this program connects us to nature, worship traditions, band culture, and other shared experiences culminating in Omar Thomas's masterpiece Come Sunday.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
PSU Jazz Ensemble, KMEA district jazz band to play
On Nov. 16, the PSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Professor Robert Kehle in the Music Department, will perform a free concert. The concert will be shared by the KMEA District II high school honor ensemble and will feature a variety of pieces from jazz standards to contemporary works.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
Bicknell Center Presents: Best of Broadway, Fiddler on the Roof
Limited tickets remain for this national tour of the Tony Award-nominated revival features a notable cast, crew, and orchestra that will bring to life the story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, and timeless traditions that define faith and family.
The show will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.
