Three free performing arts events planned  

Three performing arts events are planned in coming days on the campus of Pittsburg State University; all are free and open to the campus and the community. 

April 7 

On April 7 from 7 to 8 p.m., the PSU Symphonic Band will present a free concert in the Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, 1711 S. Homer. The band is under the direction of A. Douglas Whitten. The program will include standard and contemporary works for wind band. The band is under the direction of A. Douglas Whitten.  

April 10 

On April 10 from 5 to 6 p.m., the Southeast Kansas Symphony at Pittsburg State University will present a concert on the lawn of McCray Hall, home to the Department of Music, under the direction of Raul Munguia. It will be free and open to the public; guests are asked to bring lawn chairs. 

April 13 

On April 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the PSU Minor in Dance Program will hold their 2nd Annual Dance Research Symposium and Performance at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.  

The symposium portion of the event will be held in the lobby from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the dance performance, titled “Transformations,” held in the performance hall from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.  

The symposium will feature a variety of research and creative projects related to dance, from art to research papers to poster presentations, all related to the multiple emotions, rhythmical experiences, mental health, history, and floor patterns involving dance.  

The performance will feature 22 dance numbers including contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, ballet, jazz, tap and musical theatre performed by dancers with years of experience as well as beginning dancers with their first experience on the stage.
