The halftime ceremony featured cadets in PSU ROTC who assisted with the unveiling.
A black seat with PSU branding remained empty at that game, and will remain empty at every future game. The chair has "#1” in the top corner, indicating that all veterans are number one in our hearts and minds.
“A donor proposed the idea, and we believe it is important to bring the honor chair to Pittsburg State,” said Kathleen Flannery, vice president for University Advancement, who provides oversight of the PSU Veterans Memorial. “It’s a way to honor and remember the void felt by family, friends, and communities when their loved ones have been prisoners of war or missing in action.”
The PSU Honor Chair was fabricated by Hussey Seating and will be installed along with a dedication plaque on the southwest side of the stands near the 40-yard-line, the “best seat in the house,” reserved for veterans.
The custom fabricator of the accessories to accompany the Honor Chair was completed by Draper Sparlin, owner of D & M Iron Works in Neosho, Missouri.
The plaque reads:
“You are not forgotten.
Since World War I, more than 92,000 American soldiers are unaccounted for.
This unoccupied seat is dedicated to the memory of these brave men and women and to the sacrifices each made in serving this country.
God Bless You. God Bless America.”
Also featured at halftime was a swearing in ceremony for cadets in PSU ROTC who are entering full time military service.
