Sept. 1-24: a 9/11 exhibit
See a poster exhibit commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11, “September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World,” on the first floor of Axe Library. It was developed by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and has been made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom.
Sept. 1-Oct. 15: an art exhibit
Check out “Nature vs. Nurture” by Jared Jennings, the first of a new season of art exhibits in Porter Hall, home to the PSU Art Department. A Pitt State grad now teaching as an adjunct instructor, Jennings has struggled with anxiety and depression and has found art to be therapeutic. This exhibition explores his journey. It's open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and until 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Sept. 10: A pep rally
Show your spirit at the PSU Pep Rally, part of the long-running annual Paint the Town Red Community Block Party, in downtown Pittsburg from 6 to 8 p.m. A Kids Fun Run also will be held; no pre-registration is required.
Sept. 16: An author lecture
Hear award-winning author Adam Sonstegard deliver the 28th Annual Victor J. Emmett Memorial Lecture at 8 p.m. in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center. It’s titled “A Connecticut Yankee as an Early Graphic Novel,” and a reception will follow.
Sept. 23: A wind ensemble concert
Listen to the PSU Wind Ensemble perform a live concert called “Screen Time,” which will include something for everyone. It will be held at 7 p.m. at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at PSU and will feature music from popular movies and video games, and the screening of a special film tribute to photographer Ansel Adams.
Sept. 28: A book censorship talk
Attend An Evening With Chris Crutcher: Books Unite. Censorship Divides in honor of Banned Books Week, at 5 p.m. in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. Crutcher, an award-winning author of Loser's Bracket, Whale Talk, and Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, will speak about his experiences with censorship. A book signing will follow.
Sept. 29: A jazz concert
Listen to the PSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo perform a free concert at 7 p.m. in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The concert will have something for everyone, from jazz standards to contemporary works.
