FCS Courses for Child Development Associate (CDA)

Training Hours

The Family and Consumer Sciences program offers coursework from the Child Development emphasis for CDA training hours, while earning 9 college credit hours from Pittsburg State University.

Our Program:

  • Complete three courses (9 credit hours) with a letter grade C or better
  • Courses ensure a minimum of 10 clock hours per subject area
  • The credential you are pursuing will determine which classes you will take.

  • FCS 690 Parent/Professional Relationships 

Infant/Toddler Credential (choose one)

  • FCS 392 Infant and Toddler Development
  • FCS 590 Development of the Child: Birth - Age 8

Preschool Credential

  • FCS 590 Development of the Child: Birth - Age 8

  • Spring and Fall semesters only
    • 16-week format
    • online, asynchronous format
  • Weekly modules 
    • Assigned readings 
    • Possible videos/video lectures
    • Assignments: reflections, research, critical thinking applications
    • Participation: discussion boards, virtual observations
