Reading Specialist Licensure

Online Graduate Certificate

The Reading Specialist Licensure Certificate is a 21-hour program for teachers who already hold a master’s degree in an education field and plan to apply for Reading Specialist licensure. This program is aligned to the Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading, the International Literacy Association Standards for Reading Professionals, and is fully accredited by CAEP and the Kansas State Department of Education. Requirements for full admission include:

  • A master’s degree in education or equivalent
  • A valid teaching license
  • Evidence of classroom teaching experience
  • Two professional letters of recommendation
  • A university background check, unless currently employed with a district
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher in master’s coursework, per official transcript. Conditional entry may be given if the GPA in the undergraduate major field is below a 3.0.
