What is a Pre-Professional program?

A pre-professional program prepares students for graduate studies in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and more. Pitt State instructs the following pre-professional tracks:

  • Pre-medical

  • Pre-physical therapy
  • Pre-physician assistant

Pre-professional programs typically do not lead to certification or licensure in a specific profession. Instead, it serves as a stepping stone to a professional program.

Fast track medical and dental school with AMP-UP

Pitt State med students can fast-track their education with the AMP-UP, a competitive early admission program for KCU Medical and Dental School that allows selected students at PSU to streamline their education. Three years of undergrad education are completed at Pitt State, then four years of graduate school at KCU.

Experiential learning opportunities in Pre-Med

PSU maintains strong relationships with local healthcare providers, many of whom are alumni. Take part in the Premeds with Promise program, which trains students to scribe and document patient visits at a local physician.

Is getting into a professional school difficult?

Competition for entry into health-related professional schools is high. A student must expect to have an outstanding academic record to gain admission to a professional school.

Currently, our students have an 80-85% acceptance rate to graduate/professional programs.
