If any type of potentially hazardous gas or liquid appears to be leaking or posing a danger to persons, the following steps should be taken.
Small Incidents: Can be contained in a room
- Evacuate the room. Confine the fumes by shutting the room door. If possible, lock the door so that others can not enter.
. - Contact University Police at 911.
. - Give the dispatcher your name, department, your location, location of the emergency, and nature of the emergency. If possible, try to identify the type of material for the dispatcher.
Large Incidents: Affecting more than one room
- Evacuate to a safe area at least 500 feet upwind from the building. Do not return to the building until instructed that it is safe to do so by authorized personnel.
. - Call University Police at 911.
. - Give the dispatcher your name, department, your location, location of the emergency, and nature of the emergency. If possible, try to identify the type of material for the dispatcher.
