Invoke

The fifth concert of this season’s Solo & Chamber Music Series at Pittsburg State University will feature the award-winning string ensemble, Invoke, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13, in McCray Hall.

The multi-instrumental band Invoke encompasses traditions from across America, including bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism — styles woven together in individualized music written by and for the group.

In 2018, Invoke won the M-Prize International Chamber Arts competition and the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, where they were named “New Music/New Places” Ensemble. Their ongoing commissioning project American Postcards asks composers to pick a time and place in American history and tell their story through Invoke’s unique artistry.

Tickets are free to full-time PSU students with valid student ID. Individual tickets for the public are $12 general admission, or $8 for those over 65 and under 18. Tickets may be purchased at the PSU Ticket office in the Garfield Weede Building, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, online at www.pittstate.edu/ticketsor at the door prior to the concert based on availability.
