Stefanoni named Director of Media Relations

Chris Kelly, associate vice president for university marketing and communication, said today that Stefanoni will begin her new position on Aug. 28. Stefanoni was selected following a national search conducted this summer.

“We’re fortunate to have found someone with Andra’s knowledge and experience,” Kelly said. “She has an impeccable reputation as a communicator, and the ability to thrive intoday’s complicated media landscape.  Her skill set and passion for Pittsburg State make her a perfect fit for our team.”

Stefanoni holds both a BA and an MA from Pittsburg State University. A native of Pittsburg, Stefanoni has nearly 30 years of experience as a professional communicator. Past assignments include stops as both a staff writer and enterprise editor for the Joplin Globe, reporter and news desk editor of the Pittsburg Morning Sun, and as communications director for the Education Service Center at Greenbush.

She has also been a regular contributor to local, regional and national publications such as Kansas Wildlife and Parks Magazine, Via Christi Life, and Crawford County Convention and Visitors Guide, and has been a local event publicist and social media administrator.

“This feels like a homecoming to me,” Stefanoni said. “As the daughter and granddaughter of alumni, I have great memories of growing up on campus being exposed to the fantastic things happening here. And as a student, I have great memories working on the Collegio staff as a reporter and editor, learning the craft of storytelling.”

Stefanoni will be just the second person to hold the position of Media Relations Director since 1987. The position was previously held by Ron Womble, who retired earlier this year after 30 years of service to Pittsburg State.

Stefanoni said she is both humbled and excited for the opportunity to tell Pittsburg State’s story.

“I’m honored to step into a position held by someone I admired for so long,” said Stefanoni, who as a reporter covered Pittsburg State activities, ground breakings and ribbon cuttings.

Her honors include the 2012 Reporter of the Year award from Community Newspaper Holdings, a 2014 Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce Woman of Distinction, and numerous reporting awards from the Associated Press Editors and Missouri Press Association.

Stefanoni and her husband, Brad, live in Pittsburg with their two sons.
