Pitt State Theatre’s production of “Frankenstein” played to full houses over its five-performance run and got great reviews from those attending. But a show like this is much more than just entertainment. It’s a learning opportunity that students will never forget.
“It goes back to our holistic concept of theater,” said Gil Cooper, director. “Theater is a way of doing things. At the heart of it, theater is this wonderful way to handle and advance within our world.”
Cooper said the addition of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts and it’s Dotty and Bill Miller Theater has been a huge boost for the program.
“We specifically chose to have a 250-seat theater with flexible seating,” Cooper said. “It’s done that way because academic theater invites the audience to experience things they might not have before.”
Austin Vanbecelaere, a senior communication major, credits theater for keeping him in his hometown.
“This program has completely changed my life,” Vanbecelaere said. “It’s been the main reason why I’ve stayed at Pitt. It’s been a life-changer.”
Jade Provence, a sophomore math education major, said theater is not just for communication majors.
“Even though you are not a theater major, you can still do it,” Provence said. “I wasn’t expecting anything and I got a role.”
