KRPS public radio, located on the campus of Pittsburg State University, has been off-the-air since Monday due to the unexpected failure of a piece of equipment at the station's transmitter site.
"It's the first time in recent memory that we've been off this
long," said Missi Kelly, KRPS general manager. "The good news is
that we've ordered the replacement part and expect it to be
here Wednesday. If all goes well, we
should be back on the air just in time for
Thanksgiving."
As you might expect, KRPS has been flooded with calls from
concerned members and listeners since going off the
air Monday morning.
"The phones haven't stopped ringing
since Monday," said Kelly. "We've
actually seen a few listeners become members after turning on the
radio and not finding us there. It's reminded them how important
KRPS is to their daily life which is wonderful to know."
Current plans are for the radio station to return to the
air on Wednesday.
