PSU names Homecoming royalty for 2016

Pittsburg State University crowned the Homecoming King and Queen, Thursday, at the Yell Like Hell competition. Shelby Bicknell, a plastics engineering technology major from Pittsburg, was named queen and Christian Tavernaro, a business management major from Fort Scott, was named king.

Bicknell, a junior, is the daughter of Diane and Mitch Bicknell. She was nominated by Sigma Sigma Sigma. Tavernaro, a senior, is the son of Bobbie Yoakam and Cristin Stark. He was also nominated by Sigma Sigma Sigma.

First attendants are Jordan Showers, a plastics engineering technology major from Spring Hill, Kan., and Ivan Delgado-Luz, a justice studies major from New Bedford, Mass. Showers was nominated by the Honors College Association and Delgado-Da Luz by Phi Sigma Kappa.

Second attendants are Emily Kurec, an English education major from Leavenworth, Kan., and Carson Letchworth, a mechanical engineering technology major from Blue Springs, Mo. Kurec was nominated by ROTC and Letchworth by the Honors College Association.

PSU Homecoming activities continue on Saturday with a parade at 9 a.m. in downtown Pittsburg, GorillaFest at 11 a.m. just east of Carnie Smith Stadium, and kickoff of the Homecoming football game with Fort Hays State University at 2 p.m.
