The unexpected death of a student has saddened Pittsburg State University’s campus. Austin W. Russell, a 21-year-old native of Diamond, Mo., died Tuesday morning at his home in Carterville, Mo.

Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott issued the following statement upon learning of Russell’s death.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Austin’s family and friends,” said Scott. “There are few things more difficult in life than losing a loved one, especially when they’re as active and full of life as Austin. I offer my deepest condolences on behalf of the entire Pittsburg State University community.”

Russell was in his senior year and majoring in Plastics Engineering Technology. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Diamond in Diamond, Mo.
