PSU joins Love Your Melon cause

When an ankle injury put a kink in her collegiate volleyball plans, Jordan Morrison found herself looking for a new purpose.

“When volleyball was no longer an option, I wasn’t really sure what to do,” said Morrison, a junior psychology major at Pittsburg State. “I ended up joining a sorority and discovered that philanthropy is something I really love.”

That newfound passion for supporting worthwhile causes led Morrison to form Pitt State’s Love Your Melon crew.

“The stars aligned for me, and I knew this is what I wanted to do,” she said.

Love Your Melon is a national apparel company that raises money and awareness in support of children with cancer. When it was founded in 2012, its original mission was to put a hat on every child battling cancer in the U.S.

Since its inception, LYM has donated more than 75,000 hats to children with cancer and raised more than $1.1 million for pediatric cancer research.

Pitt State is now one of 740 colleges and universities nationwide that have joined LYM’s mission by forming Campus Crews. The Campus Crews help raise awareness and money for the LYM cause.

The Crews earn credits by selling LYM products, and the credits allow the Crews to receive exclusive gear, host donation events and create special experiences for children battling cancer.

“I’m in love with this project because it supports such an important cause,” Morrison said. “I think forming a crew here shows that PSU and its students care about helping in the fight against childhood cancer, and I’m very proud of the students who have joined our Crew so far.”
