The L. Russell Kelce Planetarium at Pittsburg State University will open it’s fall series of shows this month with two productions,, “Moons: Worlds of Mystery,” and “From Dream to Discovery: Inside NASA.”
Previously shown in the spring of 2015, “Moons: Worlds of Mystery,” shows the many satellites that orbit the planets and even the asteroids in our solar system. “Moons: Worlds of Mystery” shows at 6 and 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.
A new show, “From Dream to Discovery: Inside NASA,” opens at 6 and 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27. ”From Dream to Discovery” goes in-depth about NASA and sheds light on the processes that exist behind NASA space missions. It uses real-life projects like NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope and the New Horizons mission to Pluto as well as the extreme nature of spacecraft engineering and the life cycle of a space mission to tell the NASA story.
Each public program also includes a tour of the night sky.
Admission to each show is $3 for adults and $2 for students, children and seniors. Cash only is accepted at the door. Doors close promptly at the start time and entry afterwards is not permitted.
The L. Russell Kelce Planetarium, located at 1702 S. Joplin in Pittsburg, Kan., provides programs for schools, churches, and other groups, as well as public programs. These programs use a Digitarium Zeta projected that is capable of projecting stars, constellations, planets, the sun, the moon (and phases), daily motion of the sky, yearly motion of the sky, and motion to view the sky from any latitude on Earth.
