Opera salutes composer Kurt Weill

The PSU Opera Theatre will pay tribute to composer Kurt Weill in a free performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall in Pittsburg State University’s McCray Hall.

“A Kurt Weill Kabaret” will feature songs from Weill’s most famous operas and musicals. Included on the program are such classics as “Mack the Knife,” “My Ship,” “Alabama Song” and many more.

Weill, who lived from 1900-1950, was a leading composer who worked with Bertolt Brecht on productions like “The Threepenny Opera.” Weill fled Nazi Germany in 1933, came to the U.S. in 1935, and became a U.S. citizen in 1943.
