Broadcasters receive regional, national honors

Several Pittsburg State University communication students have been named finalists for regional and national awards.

Pittsburg State students set a new school record by earning 11 finalist designations in audio and video competition categories for the South Central Broadcasting Society awards. The regional awards competition draws entries from an 11-state area, including Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. In addition to the SCBS awards, students from the PSU Communication program have garnered three finalist designations in the College Broadcasters, Inc., national awards, tying a high-water mark for PSU.

“The finalist designations basically denote that an entry is in the top three or four in its category,” said Communication Assistant Professor Trent Kling, “Our program continues to see growth in regional and national accomplishments, and that speaks to the quality of our students and our department as a whole.”

Honored entries include Colin Terry’s promotional video for the PSU Theatre’s production of “The Shape of Things,” and Cameron Molina’s radio sports play-by-play entry, both of which were named finalists at the regional and national level. William Eigenmann’s public service announcement “Think Before You Post” also earned national recognition from CBI. Michaela Joines received regional finalist honors for four entries, Molina and Terry for two each. Pittsburg State students received five regional finalist awards for television work, and six for audio production.

First place winners in each contest will be announced in October. For a complete list of competition winners and more information about the SCBS Regional Broadcast Awards, go to http://scbroadvasting.wordpress.com. For information about the CBI awards, visit http://www.askcbi.com.
