Pittsburg State launches apparel line

Pittsburg State University today announced the launch of a new apparel line just in time for the upcoming football season. Known as the “Champions Collection,” the clothing line features a unique Gorilla design based upon the university’s famous bronze, Champions Plaza sculpture by world-renowned artist, Tom Corbin.

Champions Plaza has become a destination for Gorilla fans of all ages,” said Jenny Hellwig, creative services director. “We wanted to create a special brand that captured the wonder of the unique nature of the plaza, while still allowing fans to display their love of Pittsburg State. It’s the perfect combination of elegance and power.”

Alumni of a certain age will recognize the return of a familiar color in the Champions Collection.

“We’ve brought back the original color of crimson for the Champions Collection,” said Hellwig. “It’s a nod to our heritage and the alumni who laid the foundation for the university we know and love.”

The new Champions Collection will be available exclusively through Pittsburg State University partner, Barnes and Noble. The initial launch features four items available online and in the campus bookstore.

“We’re starting small in order to gauge demand,” said Hellwig. “In addition to the online sales, Barnes and Noble will also have a limited selection available at home football games. The nice part is that a portion of the proceeds will go back to our alumni association to help with future programming.”

Fans of the university’s current logo needn’t worry about it disappearing anytime soon. It remains one of the most revered collegiate marks in the nation.

“The split-face logo is as unique as our mascot,” said Hellwig. “Its vibrant colors, piercing eyes, and rectangular shape make it instantly recognizable. In an age where logos and brands can change every few years, ours has stood the test of time.”

Champions Collection apparel is available in the Barnes and Noble campus bookstore and online at pittstate.shoptruespirit.com.
