The downtown location of Krimson Kultuur, the student-run store created by Pittsburg State’s Enactus group, will close July 30.  

 

The project itself, however, is very much alive and well.

 

“The downtown storefront is closing, but the store itself is not,” said Enactus adviser Suzanne Hurt. “We are simply shifting our focus to e-commerce, and the store will remain operational online.”

Hurt said the current student leadership in Enactus wanted to spend more time and resources on the store’s online operation in order to gain valuable experience in online business.

The online store is expected to launch in October. 

“Learning the ins and outs of e-commerce will be prove to be incredibly valuable to the students,” Hurt said. “While we greatly enjoyed having a storefront downtown, this new focus on online sales will enhance the students’ educational experience.”

Krimson Kultuur opened in November 2013 at 111 W. 4th Street. After six months at that location, it moved to its new home at 508 N. Broadway. The Fair Trade store sells items created by local and international artists.

The store was staffed by students, who gained valuable business experience.

“The students ran the store,” Hurt said. “It was their baby, it was their project. So what they got out of the past two and a half years was real-world experience in running a small business, which is not an easy thing to do. They learned just how much work goes into running a business, and I think that experience will serve to be extremely beneficial to them in their future careers.”

All items in the downtown storefront will be marked 50 percent off starting July 12.
