Top area high school musicians to perform

Some of the best high school musicians in the Four-State area will come together to perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, in Pittsburg State University’s Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The concert, which includes the PSU Wind Ensemble, is free and open to the public.

Craig Fuchs, director of the PSU Wind Ensemble, said 182 students from 29 schools in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma are scheduled to participate in the 33rd annual Four State Band Festival.

Throughout the day, Thursday, the students will rehearse with guest clinicians in preparation for the evening concert. The conductors for the Festival Concert are William Owens, a nationally known composer from Fort Worth, Texas; and Michael Mapp, director of bands at Washburn University.

Some of the factors considered in selecting students for the honor bands include the musical honors the students have achieved, their director's recommendation, and the students’ seniority in school.
