Students at Pittsburg State University will have an opportunity this week to walk in another person’s shoes, if only for a brief moment. The Office of Student Diversity, University Housing and the Gorilla Activities Board will sponsor Jungle of Oppression April 4-5. The event runs from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. each day in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center.
The Jungle of Oppression as an interactive experience designed to create an awareness of different types of oppression and its effects within society and the campus community. Student groups have come together to cover powerful topics such as LGBT rights, racial oppression, types of abuse, suicide, self-harm, and human trafficking.
After going through the experience, participants will have the opportunity to process what they experienced with trained facilitators. They can also obtain information on ways to respond to or end oppression.
Although the program is targeted to the campus community, it is open to anyone who would like to attend.
