PSU hosts Earth Day presentation, discussion

In recognition of Earth Day, Pittsburg State University’s Tilford Group will host a presentation by Craig Wolfe, the communications director for the Kansas Sierra Club and volunteer president of the Heartland Renewable Energy Society, followed by a panel discussion on the environment and social justice.

The presentation, “The Climate Crisis: Threats and Opportunities,” will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center. The presentation will touch on questions like: “Is the climate crisis real?” “What are the threats we face?” and “Where are the opportunities going forward?”

Five members of the faculty in PSU’s Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences will serve on the discussion panel, which will follow Wolfe’s presentation. Their discussion will focus on the ways that race, gender and poverty affect environmental issues like the Flint, Michigan, lead crisis.

PSU’s Tilford Group is composed of faculty, staff and administrators, who work to attract speakers, to present panels, to coordinate workshops and to produce academic and cultural events dedicated to reflecting the university’s commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
