Two Pittsburg State Graphics and Imaging Technologies students have advanced to national competition in the American Advertising Awards.
Projects by Haily Ayres, a December graduate from Lansing, Kan., and Brittney Feuerborn, a senior from Greeley, Kan., earned silver ADDY awards at district competition in March, which qualifies them to be judged on the national level.
Ayres’s describes her project, BYOB* (Be Your Own Bartender) Subscription Box, as a “subscription box that delivers ingredients for the cocktail of that month to your front door.” Her project earned the Student Best of Show award at the American Advertising Federation – Joplin Awards Ceremony.
"It's an incredible feeling to have your work recognized at this level," Ayres said. "We put a lot of time and energy into our projects, and it's nice to know that others like what we've created."
Feuerborn created and designed a label for Kaleidoscope Vodka, a hypothetical product she “invented” for competition.
“I really like bottles that make you look through the glass to see a design on the other side of the bottle,” she said, “and I knew I really wanted to incorporate something visually interesting and colorful.”
While Ayres and Feuerborn are the only PSU students to compete at nationals this year, several Pitt State students earned ADDY Awards this spring at the local competition in Joplin.
Gold winners and their projects are: Feuerborn, Kaleidoscope Vodka; Nicholas Simpson, Farmhouse; Ayres, BYOB Subscription Box; Dylan Casey, Dust 2 Movie Poster; Gage Rogers, American Propaganda Poster; and Evan Deuvall, Into Obsurity. The group of Ayres, Simpson, Aaron Troglia, Nolan Terrill, Brittany Long and Jaydon Wilson also won a Gold award for their Collegio Newspaper Rebrand.
Silver winners and their projects are: Cheyenne Garrison, Tri-fold Holiday Card and Gift Tags; Brittany Long, G3 Expo Table Top Display; Caitlin Shepard, Ribbons and Lace Promotional App; Gage Rogers, Power Up – 8 Bit Restaurant; Amanda Reno, Outside the Box Art Packaging Collection; Stevie Barfoot, Little Owl Coffee Concept; Michaela Jones, Humane Society Pet Adoption and Geometric Illustration – Tiger; Kayla Justice, Spirit of Self; Casey McCafferty, Hive Notebooks; Sally Studyvin, SS Branding; Haily Ayres, Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters App; and Gina Lee, Jules Verne Adventure Collection.
