The breadth of student research will be on display Thursday at Pittsburg State University’s annual Research Colloquium. Throughout the day, student researchers will give more than 100 presentations on their research in areas as diverse as science and technology and literature and the arts.
“The research that will be presented is impressive not just for its quality, but also for the diversity of topics,” said Pawan Kahol, dean of graduate and continuing studies, and research. “It is exciting to see the experience that undergraduate and graduate students at Pittsburg State University are gaining through original and applied research, creative endeavors, and scholarly projects.”
Provost Lynette Olson added that research is an important part of a complete university experience.
“At Pittsburg State, we’re preparing students to go out into the world as critical thinkers,” Olson said. “Too often, we think of research as something just for the chemistry or biology labs, but research should and does take place in all areas of learning and doing.”
The PSU Student Research Colloquium begins at 8:15 a.m. with an opening ceremony in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center. Oral presentations will take place from 9 a.m. until noon in the Sunflower and Governors Rooms. Poster presentations will be from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom.
