Technology education students represented Pittsburg State recently at the International Technology and Engineering Educator's Association (ITEEA) conference in Washington, D.C.
The 14 Pitt State students who attended the conference competed in
various events against students from nearly 20 other universities
from across the nation. The students represented Pittsburg State in
eight competitions including quiz bowl, live manufacturing, live
video communication, teaching lesson, educational display,
transportation, robotics and problem solving.
The Pitt State team finished in first place in the transportation
competition and third place in the educational display
competition.
"The Technology and Engineering Education students represented PSU
very well at the competitions,” said associate professor Andy
Klenke. “I am very proud of their accomplishments and how they
performed as a team. They are a great group of students and will
undoubtedly will make tremendous teachers once they begin their
teaching careers."
Along with competing, the students also attended professional
presentations at the ITEEA conference. Sessions included the New
Teacher Workshop, CNC Programming, and Makerspace.
“These presentations allowed them to fully participate in the
conference as teachers,” Klenke said. “They were able to network
with vendors, association staff, school district personnel, other
university students and faculty who provided invaluable knowledge
and insight to the profession.”
In between conference sessions and competitions, the students had
the opportunity to do some sightseeing in Washington. They visited
the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veteran's
Memorial, WWII Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, National Air and Space
Museum and the Holocaust Museum.
