SEK Symphony features rising stars

The Southeast Kansas Symphony will shine the spotlight on some “rising stars” with it’s next concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at Pittsburg State University, 1711 S. Homer, in Pittsburg.

The concert will feature three of the finest artists on campus -- the winners of the 2015 Concerto Aria Competition.

First-Place winner Madison Youngberg-King, a soprano, will perform “Steal Me, Sweet Thief,” by Gian Carlo Menotti. Second place winner, pianist Lipin Xia, will perform the Piano Concerto No. 3 by Sergei Prokoffiev. Third place winner, violinist Sarah Huang, will perform the Violin Concerto No. 2 in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn. 

Christopher Koch of the Springfield Civic Orchestra and Springfield Regional Opera Music Director will be the guest conductor.

All Seating is general admission and tickets for the performance are $9 for adults, $5 for children high school age and under and $7 for persons 65 and older. PSU students, faculty, staff and retired faculty are admitted without charge. The Southeast Kansas Symphony is under the direction of Assistant Professor Raúl A. Munguía.
