Science Day tests high school students

More than 550 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from 22 high schools in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma tested their knowledge in biology, chemistry and physics on Thursday, March 24, at PSU’s annual Science Day.

In addition to taking written and oral exams, the students participated in a variety of science contests, ranging from constructing an earthquake-resistant tower to building a mousetrap-powered car.

“Based on comments from both teachers and students who participate in the event, every year students look forward to testing their knowledge base in science and visiting the campus,” said Peter Chung, associate professor of biology and one of the organizers of the event.

“We believe Science Day provides area high school students with exposure to the opportunities provided by the various science departments and the university itself. Science Day is an important outreach, service and recruitment tool not only for the departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, but for the entire campus as well.”
