Root Coffeehouse in downtown Pittsburg, has enjoyed tremendous success since opening its doors last year. Much of that success can be credited to the Kansas Small Business Development Center and its newest consultant, Sydney Anselmi.
Anselmi, who earned her bachelor and master’s degrees from Pitt State, helped Root launch its website and social media marketing efforts during her tenure on Root’s staff. Now, as a member of the KSBDC team, she continues to help Root grow and succeed.
“Having once worked at Root, it’s an incredible feeling to now be on this side of things and continue to help them grow and flourish,” Anselmi said. “The KSBDC at PSU takes great pride in providing consulting and advisement services to local and regional businesses. The more we can help them grow, the more we help our economy grow.”
Lindsey Kling, owner of Root Coffeehouse, said Anselmi’s experience and knowledge of web marketing has been vital to Root’s early success.
"Working with Sydney in Root’s early days and now with her through the KSBDC has helped us in multiple ways, facilitating a continued effective use of social media and introducing avenues through which we can retain more of our incoming revenue,” Kling said. “The assistance provided by Sydney and the KSBDC team is an invaluable asset to our small business, and helps contribute to our overall goal of improving downtown Pittsburg."
In her new position at the KSBDC, Anselmi works with multiple small businesses throughout the region, helping them grow their web presence, social media engagement and overall success.
Tom Byler, director of the KSBDC at Pitt State, said Anselmi has made an immediate impact on the team and the services it provides.
“The addition of Sydney and her education and experience with all things web and marketing related is already having an impact,” Byler said. “She has helped us connect with clients and chambers of commerce in two of the towns we serve in SEK in a way we have not been able to in the past.
“We also have had individual clients begin working with Sydney on how to improve their web presence,” he said. “In addition, our own Facebook page has seen a significant increase in engagement thanks to Sydney's expertise.”
Along with providing consultation services, the KSBDC at Pitt State also hosts a variety of workshops aimed at helping companies improve their business operations. Recent workshops have focused on topics such as social media, government contracts, sales tax for farmers markets and developing a master plan.
