International students share food, culture with the community

Pittsburg State University’s International Food and Culture Fair on Saturday, March 5, is an opportunity for the nearly 500 international students who attend PSU to share their diverse foods and cultures with the community that for at least a short time, they call home.

The fair, the largest single international event of the year, takes place from 5-8 p.m. at Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium.

“The international students have been preparing for a long time and this is a really important event for them,” said Stephanie Gonzalez, programming coordinator in PSU’s Office of International Programs and Services. “They are very eager to share some homemade foods from their home countries and they’ve been practicing their cultural performances. We have some amazingly talented students!”

The event begins with food tasting at 5 p.m. in the lower level of the auditorium. There is an entry fee of $2 per person with children under 12 admitted for free. Additionally, food samples and beverages are $1. The live performances will begin at 7 p.m. in the theater upstairs

“The International Food and Culture Fair is a reminder of the rich diversity of the world we live in and also of how much our international students enrich our own community when the come to study at Pittsburg State,” Gonzalez said.
