Gorillas are saying 'thank you,' this week

As a way of honoring private donors who help provide everything from scholarships to university buildings, students at Pittsburg State University are expressing their gratitude this week through the annual Thank a Gorilla (T.A.G.) event. 

The PSU Advancement Ambassadors first organized the event in 2013 as a way to raise awareness of the role private giving plays on campus and to thank donors who have contributed to the university.

 “It’s impossible to overestimate the impact that our donors have on the campus,” said Becky May, director of donor relations. “Simply put, Pitt State wouldn’t be the campus it is without them and many students wouldn’t have the opportunities they have without our donors’ support.”

 Beginning on Monday, March 21, members of the Advancement Ambassadors began affixing red ribbons and tags on objects around campus that were funded by private donors. They are also distributing TAG wrist bands to students who have received scholarships.

 “A lot of our students, many of whom are scholarship recipients, are surprised at all of the ways that our donors help PSU,” May said. “Pittsburg State would definitely not be the great university it is without the loyal support of so many generous people.”
