Wind Ensemble shares the stage

For their concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, the Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble will share the stage in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts with one of the top high school ensembles in Kansas. The PSU and the Olathe Northwest Wind Ensemble will both perform programs they are preparing for the 2016 Kansas Music Educators Association Conference Feb. 25-27 in Wichita.

“Ensembles that are selected to perform at the KMEA conference are chosen through a statewide audition process and it is truly an honor for both groups to have been invited to this year's conference program,” said Craig Fuchs, a member of the PSU Music Department faculty and director of the PSU Wind Ensemble.

Fuchs said the Olathe Northwest wind program, under the direction of Bob Davis, is one of the best in Kansas and having them perform on campus is also an opportunity to showcase what Pittsburg State has to offer potential students.

"It is so great to be able to share the stage with this fine high school ensemble,” Fuchs said. “We are doing side-by-side concerts this spring so that outstanding band programs from the area have a chance to perform in our world-class concert hall and to hopefully do a little recruiting as part of the process."

Raul Munguia, assistant professor of music at PSU and conductor/artistic director of the Southeast Kansas Symphony will perform the "Meditation" from Thais, by Jules Massenet, in the PSU Wind Ensemble’s portion of the program.

The concert is free and open to the public.
