PSU hosts first Dance Showcase

Dancers from Pittsburg State University and throughout the region will display their various talents during the PSU Dance Showcase, which takes place Feb. 29 at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

The event, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Bicknell Center’s Linda and Lee Scott Performance Hall, is the first of what organizers hope will become an annual event.

“The showcase was an idea that originated when the PSU Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation implemented its new Minor in Dance and Certificate in Dance programs,” said Janice Jewett, HHPR association professor and event co-organizer. “We’re excited to get this event off the ground and to give the audience an amazing dance exhibition.”

Pitt State dancers and students in various clubs and organizations will perform at the event, along with several other groups from throughout the region.

“In addition to highlighting our students, we also feature strong dance programs within the community and region, area high school dance teams, PSU student organizations and Pittsburg Community Theatre’s upcoming production of Junie B. Jones the Musical,” Jewett said.

Groups performing include Midwest Regional Ballet, Cottey College Dance Company, Brenda's Dance Studio, Pittsburg Parks and Recreation, the Dance Pitt, the Y Academy of Dance, PHS, CHS and FHS Dance Teams, the PSU Black Student Association, PSU Pom Squad, PSU Dance Club and more.

Admission to the Dance Showcase is free to the public. For those who cannot attend, the event will be streamed live online at pittstate.tv.
