Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary Mike King will visit Pittsburg State next week for a discussion about new technology in the transportation industry.
King will address students in Pitt State’s School of Construction at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, in Room S102 of the Kansas Technology Center. His visit to campus is sponsored by the PSU Student Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
“We are very excited and honored to welcome Secretary King to campus to talk to our School of Construction students,” said Joe Levens, assistant professor in the School of Construction. “Secretary King will speak to our students about the use of new technologies and methods in the construction of transportation systems.”
Levens said being addressed by the KDOT secretary is a “tremendous opportunity for our students.”
“Having a guest speaker the caliber of Secretary King enhances our students’ educational experience at PSU,” he said. “This is just one more way we’re able to show them how what they’re learning here applies to real-world, everyday operations in industry.”
King was named KDOT secretary by Gov. Sam Brownback in March 2012. In July 2013, he also became director of the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
King is a 1981 graduate of John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.
