PSU hosts free family movie in the Plaster Center

For several years, Pittsburg State University’s Office of Alumni and Constituent Relations has hosted free family movie nights under the stars in Carnie Smith Stadium. Now, with the addition of the Robert W. Plaster Center, the office can offer movies during the cold winter months, too.

Alumni Relations will show “Inside Out,” the 2015 3-D computer-animated comedy-adventure film by Pixar Animation Studios, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, in the Plaster Center.

“This is the first film we’ve sponsored at the Plaster Center,” said Jon Bartlow, director of alumni and constituent relations. “We're excited to give our alumni and friends something to do during the dark, cold nights of January. Family events like this fit perfectly with the kind of family atmosphere that PSU is so well known for.”

One of the stars of the show is sure to be the Crown Automotive Video Board, which stands nearly 16 feet tall and 29 feet wide. That is supported by a sound system includes six arrays with more than 50 speakers and the ability to fill the space with more than 80,000 watts of power.

Bartlow said movie goers may bring blankets and pillows to make themselves comfortable on the artificial turf. No food or drink is allowed on the turf or the track, but persons who wish to purchase those at the concession stand may do so and sit in the bleacher seating. No outside food or drink may be brought into the Plaster Center.

Additionally, no balls, skateboards, Frisbees, bicycles or similar items are allowed in the building. Adult supervision is required for all children. Parking is available in the Plaster Center parking lot, which is accessed through the Kansas Technology Center parking lot, or in the Bicknell Center Parking lot just south of the Plaster Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
