Orlando Consort performs at PSU

The Orlando Consort, one of Europe’s most expert and consistently challenging groups performing repertoire from the years 1050 to 1550, will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, in the Sharon K. Dean Recital Hall in Pittsburg State University’s McCray Hall. The performance is part of the 2015-16 Solo and Chamber Music Series.

In Pittsburg, the Consort will perform a program titled “This Scepter’d Isle: A Musical Guide to Early English History (as told by William Shakespeare).” This program tells the compelling story of important historical events through a timeline that follows the sequence of Shakespeare’s great history plays, from the reign of King John (1199-1216).

The Orlando Consort was formed in 1988 by the Early Music Network of Great Britain and has performed at many of Britain’s top festivals and around the world. The ensemble’s impressive discography includes releases for a number of labels, including Deutsche Grammophon and Harmonia Mundi USA.

The Consort currently holds a residency at Nottingham University and recent concert highlights include their debut at New York's Carnegie Hall. As well as presenting the ‘Voices Appeared’ project throughout 2016, the Consort will maintain its busy schedule of recitals throughout the UK, Europe and the U.S.

Tickets for the performance are $12 for general admission and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. Full-time PSU students are admitted free with a valid ID. Tickets are available at the PSU Ticket Office, 1701 S. Homer Street, 620-235-4796.
