PSU honors fall graduates

Pittsburg State University President Steve Scott offered words of advice for the estimated 560 graduates who participated in PSU’s fall commencement on Friday, Dec. 11. It was the largest fall graduating class in the university’s history.

Scott quoted President Bill Clinton, baseball great Yogi Berra and music star Adele in brief remarks that were at times inspirational, at times humorous and at times serious.

“Uncertainty is in front of you, just as it has been behind you,” the president told the graduates. “The good news is that I'm confident you are better equipped today to deal with the world than you were when you arrived here. Your degree from Pittsburg State, your network of family, the new friends you've made, and the growth you've experienced over the past few years all position you well to confront and conquer these uncertainties and turn them into opportunities.”

He urged the graduates to “work together to define a future where good news overwhelms the bad and where everyone gets to participate and has a legitimate opportunity to succeed.”

In addition to Scott, the graduates heard from Provost Lynette Olson and Daniel Thomas, a member of the Kansas Board of Regents, who spoke on behalf of the governing body.
