Publication puts PSU on its Best in the Midwest list

U.S. News and World Report has included Pittsburg State University on its list of top tier “Best Regional Universities” for 2016. The list, included in the publication’s “2016 Best Colleges.”

U.S. News and World Report defined the Midwest Region as including the states of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. PSU was the highest ranked regional university in Kansas.

To develop its rankings, U.S. News examines factors including undergraduate academic reputation, alumni giving, retention rates, how selective the university’s admissions policies are and financial resources.

Lee Young, associate vice president for enrollment management and student success at PSU, said the university’s rankings reflect the effort of countless faculty and staff across the campus who are committed to helping students succeed.

“We are a place of opportunity for a wide range of students. This commitment can be perceived by some as a disadvantage for a university regarding its overall ranking, especially when the university purposefully places greater value on teaching and student success rather than placing a higher value on selectivity and financial resources,” Young said. “The fact that Pitt State is consistently considered one of the best universities in the region is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone at Pittsburg State toward making student success ‘priority one’.”
